76 Teams - 4 Courts - 2.5 Days - 0 Stress
The annual Wildcat Holiday Blowout youth basketball
tournament has increased in size since its inception in 1998. The effort of
registering and scheduling over 70 teams for a three day, three game minimum
tournament had extended beyond what the Wildcat staff could manage. That's when
the Wildcats, led by Brad Coleman, turned to Jevin for help.
Holiday's are stressful enough
Holiday season can be stressful enough just trying to complete all the shopping,
traveling, visiting friends and relatives and countless other things that happen
at the end of the year. Imagine if on top of that, you needed to organize a 70+
team basketball tournament to be held a few days after Christmas. Without
some time saving tools, your holiday time could quickly give way to
spreadsheets, phone calls, and frustration.
"I can't
imagine ever doing this on our own again."
- Brad Coleman, South Dakota Wildcats
Special scheduling requests
Many tournaments do not even try to accommodate special scheduling requests
because the organizers do not have a tool that can efficiently make schedule
changes. This not only cuts down on the overall tournaments participation level
but also leaves those who do participate feeling less than fully satisfied.
Using the Jevin scheduling tool, Mr. Coleman was able to easily adjust the
tournament schedules to incorporate as many scheduling requests as possible. The
end result, satisfied patrons and a record turnout!
Trade-offs
Without being bogged down in the mechanics of registration and scheduling, the
Wildcats were able to closely monitor their court utilization so that they could
make informed decisions about the need to lease another facility and the
additional revenue, costs and staffing requirements that go along with the
additional resources. The end result: an efficient tournament with lower
overhead expenses.
The little things
By letting the Jevin system automate tasks, Brad Coleman had more time to
spend on the "little things." Brad focused on making sure each team knew their
schedule, scheduling officials, gate and concession workers, and countless other
last minute items that made the Wildcat tournament special. By working together,
Jevin and the Wildcats put on a very effective tournament without the
accompanying stress. Everyone from the participants to the Wildcats were pleased
with the way the preparation and eventual tournament took place. In the
words of Brad Coleman, "I can't imagine ever doing this on our own again."
